10 Reasons Why Movie Stars Hire Nannies

Movie stars are always in the limelight and constantly hounded by adoring fans and paparazzi. Their families are often subjected to intrusions of every sort and their lives are usually lived in a fish bowl with everyone looking in and scrutinizing every movement. There are so many obvious reasons why stars would feel the need to hire someone to watch over their kids and here are a few of those reasons.

  1. Nannies can provide a degree of normalcy – Being the child of a movie star has its advantages, but it also has a host of disadvantages. A nanny can mitigate some of the disadvantages by providing a routine for the children that will keep them grounded as well as shielded from some of the madness that comes with the position.
  2. On location, away from home – Film stars must often leave to shoot movies on locations far from home. Some choose to take their kids with them and others leave them at home. Either way, having a nanny means that the kids will stay on the same schedule, more or less, and that their daily routine will not be terribly impacted. The nanny’s job is to keep things on an even keel. She will see to it that things go the way the kids are accustomed to having them go at home even when they are in a different location.

  4. Caring for infants – There are nannies trained specifically to care for infants. For stars that have infants, this can be a lifesaver as they need to make sure their careers stay on track. Many movie stars feel as though they cannot take too much time away from the camera because fans are often fickle. Having a nanny who specializes in infant care gives the parent relief in knowing that their child is going to be well cared for by a competent caregiver.
  5. Keeping the kids occupied – Part of the nanny’s job is to make sure the kids have intellectual stimulation according to the International Nanny Association. So in addition to making sure their basic needs are met, the nanny must keep the kids occupied in constructive pursuits. They are trained in providing entertainment for kids, which means that the kids will be less likely to get into trouble when they have time on their hands.
  6. Tutoring – Nannies are accustomed to helping kids with their school work. Movie stars will most likely not have time on a regular basis to sit down and work on math problems with their kids or help them with school projects. On the other hand, this is part of what a nanny does in her position.
  7. Miscellaneous errands – Because of their popularity, it may be difficult for some stars to get out and just do normal everyday errands without being accosted by the public. Having a nanny available to do some of these errands can make life a lot easier.
  8. Solid routine for kids – Hiring a nanny means that the kids will have some predictability in their lives. The stars have the freedom to attend to the demands of their profession knowing that their kids will have a solid routine and that their fluctuating programs will not have a huge impact on their children’s schedule. Children thrive with predictable routines because they know what to expect and a nanny provides that.
  9. No transporting to daycare– Whether the nanny is a live-in nanny or a live-out nanny, a nanny cares for the kids in the parent’s home. This means a movie star does not have to risk taking their children through the paparazzi every time they require daycare.
  10. Privacy – For movie stars, one thing they struggle with constantly is privacy. To a certain degree a nanny can shield the children from constant exposure to the public. The nanny can provide a somewhat insulated world for the children to operate in so that they are not bombarded by those who want to know every little detail of their lives.

Being a movie star has a lot of perceived advantages, but they come at a price. The children of movie stars have a more difficult time living “regular” lives, unless an effort is put forth to see that it happens. Nannies can help make normal life happen for the children of famous people.
